Vitiligo is described in Ayurveda as Switra.
This is a chronic or long-lasting skin condition in which there is a loss of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes), resulting in white patches on the skin.

Signs:
Milky white patches on the skin, which may be localised or spread over large areas.
The patches are more prominent on areas exposed to the sun, like hands, legs, neck, face, etc.
It is common to see symmetrical patches.
The patches can be pale white, pink, copper or dull coloured and they turn white over time with sharp margins.
This condition is progressive. The patches can spread to other areas of the body, can enlarge and also join to form larger patches.
Causes:
This is an auto-immune disorder.
Other causes are – prolonged cortico-steroid treatment, prolonged antibiotic treatment, recurrent jaundice or typhoid fever, and emotional trauma or stress.
Supplements:
Helps in stopping the progression and gradually reversing the patches. Has immunomodulatory function.
Reduces all symptoms and helps in the formation of new pigment cells.
Induces normal pigmentation in the skin.
